It has been a busy start to the year with a further five schools in the city launching WOW - ‘Walk Once a Week’ schemes. Brighton and Hove Albion players visited Coldean Primary School to encourage the children to get their walking shoes on (see picture below).
The other schools who will also be striding out are Coombe Road Primary, Fairlight Primary, Hertford Junior, and St Joseph’s RC Primary joining Westdene Primary, Patcham Junior and Cottesmore St Mary’s RC Primary Schools who have been WOWing for a year already. This means that over 1,200 additional children will be taking part during this year with the aim of permanently increasing the number of children walking to school at each school by at least 10%. ‘Strider’ the WOW mascot visited Brighton in February to spur the WOWers along. More scooter training has been delivered and scooter and cycle storage has now been installed at a further 14 schools all helping to get more children actively travelling to school. Also, the latest edition of ‘How do you travel to school?’ has just been published full of good ideas about how to make your school journey active and safe – take a look at the school travel website. Finally, don’t forget to take part in walk to school week starting Monday 21st May. |
